The games of August 20th, 1957 had three more doubleheaders and one single game. The single affair had the Pittsburgh Pirates beating front running Milwaukee 3-2. The Brooklyn Dodgers made a run with a sweep over the Cincinnati Redlegs and now are only two percentage points out of second place. Both are two and a half games back of Milwaukee. The Braves are 72 and 47, while the Redlegs are 69-49 and the Dodgers are 70 and 50. In other action the Phillies and Cubs split their double dip as did the Cardinals and Giants. Outstanding performers were Hank Sauer going 3 for four with 4 rbi and a homer. Moe Drabowsky pitched a five hit shutout over Phils striking out 7, while Robin Roberts, Von McDaniel and Johnny Podres all got complete game victories while limiting their opponent to only one run.

Games from Sunday August 18th,1957. After a lengthy rest period, I resume my 1957 National League replay on a double header Sunday in August. Only one single game and that had the Chicago Cubs knocking off the second place Cincinnati Redlegs by the score of 3-1. Bob Rush went the distance in scattering three hits in winning his 9th of the season for a bad Bruin team. The three double headers were all splits. In Brooklyn, the Dodgers lost the opener to Pittsburgh 10-9, but rallied for a 12-9 win in night cap. The Milwaukee Braves split with the Cardinals winning the opener 13-5 behind Henry Aaron's two homer, six rbi out burst. It was homeruns number 31 and 32 for Henry. In night cap Vineger Bend Mizel tossed a beauty at league leaders, shutting them out on three hits and striking out seven while walking only one batter. Cards won the game three nil. In Philadelphia, the Phils and Giants split with Quackers taking opener 6-2 and Giants behind Al Worthington's three hit white-wash pitching along with Willie Mays' two homerun, five rbi performance drilled Phils in night cap 11-oh.
