Second baseman Danny O'Connell left the yard and had 3 RBI at County Stadium
as the Milwaukee Braves beat the struggling Chicago Cubs in 11 innings by the
count of 7 to 6.

The score was tied at 4 after nine. Milwaukee was victorious in the 11th
inning. After an out was recorded, Johnny Logan hit a single. After another
out, Dick Littlefield came to the plate and uncorked a wild pitch. Del Rice
then drew a walk. Frank Torre came up and he laced a single to load the
bases. O'Connell stepped into the box and drew a walk giving Milwaukee the
win much to the delight of the home town crowd. The game was a wild affair
with the lead changing hands 5 times.

Ernie Johnson(1-0) allowed no runs in 1 inning, and picked up the victory.
Turk Lown(0-1) took the loss in relief. He allowed Milwaukee 3 runs in 2 and
1/3 innings of work.

In a tight game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 4, the slumping New York Giants
2 at The Polo Grounds.

Pittsburgh won the game with a rally in the 8th inning with 2 runs using 3
hits. After an out was recorded, Hank Foiles initiated the scoring spurt
when he doubled. Bill Mazeroski came next and he bombed a two-run dinger
(his 1st of the season). Pittsburgh out-hit New York for the game, 11 hits
to 8.

The winning pitcher was Ron Kline(1-1) who allowed 2 runs in 7 innings. Roy
Face recorded his 1st save. The loss was charged to Pete Burnside(0-1).

Hal Jeffcoat tossed a complete game at Sportsman's Park as the Cincinnati
Redlegs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 1.

Cincinnati took the lead for good in the top of the 2nd inning when they
tallied 2 runs on 3 hits. That early scoring held up. The pitchers took
over after the 3rd inning as neither team was able to score again.

The win was credited to Jeffcoat(1-0) who went the whole way allowing 1 run.
Murry Dickson(0-1) absorbed the loss. He surrendered 4 runs and 8 hits in 6
innings.
