Third baseman Ken Boyer rocketed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Ebbets Field as
the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 9 to
1.

Boyer led the offense for St. Louis. He cracked a solo homerun in the 2nd
inning, doubled in the 4th inning and lifted one out of the park for a two
run home run (his 2nd of the season) in the 8th inning. St. Louis ended up
with 13 hits for the game while Brooklyn had 4.

Tom Cheney(1-1) went 7 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the win. Don
Newcombe(1-2) absorbed the loss. He was touched for 3 homeruns in his 7
innings of work.

Redlegs defeated the New York Giants by a score of 7 to 3 at The Polo
Grounds.

Art Fowler(3-0) pitched a fine game. He was reached for 7 hits and 2 walks in
6 innings. New York was out-hit by Cincinnati, 13 hits to 9.

Tom Acker gained credit for his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Jim
Constable(0-1) in relief. He pitched 2 innings allowing 3 hits and no walks.

At Connie Mack Stadium, the Philadelphia faithful were treated to an
intriguing pitcher's duel. Don Cardwell(1-0) finally bested his Chicago
counterpart, Tom Poholsky(0-1), by the score of 2 to 1.

Cardwell contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 4 hits
and 3 walks in 8 and 1/3 innings. Cardwell racked up 9 strikeouts lowering
his ERA to 2.16. Neither team managed to score after the 4th inning.

Cardwell got help from Turk Farrell who earned his 1st save. Poholsky
suffered the loss. He pitched 6 innings giving up 6 hits and 3 walks.

Bill Bruton had 5 hits and scored 3 times at Forbes Field where the Milwaukee
Braves beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 10 to 3.

Milwaukee jumped on top of Pittsburgh in the 4th inning scoring a single run
using 2 hits. After two were out Bruton doubled. Del Crandall stepped up
next and he stroked a one-base hit scoring the run. Milwaukee finished with
16 hits while Pittsburgh ended up with 13.

Gene Conley(2-0) went 7 and 2/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the win. Bob
Friend(2-3) was the loser. He was knocked around by Milwaukee, allowing 9
hits and 2 walks in 4 and 2/3 innings.
