In the four games on this the last day of April, 1957 98 hits were made in four National League games. In Pittsburgh six Pirates made three hits in the game, including pitcher Luis Arroyo and Dale Long, pictured above. All toll, the Buccos made 23 hits and 18 runs against St. Louis, beating the Cardinals 18-3. Dale Long has been rumored "on the trading block" because of his poor batting average. He raised his average 92 points and more than doubled his rbi total with 5. In another wild game, the Phillies dropped a 10-9 game to the Cincinnati Redlegs in 15 innings. In that game three Phillies had 4 hits each. Chico Fernandez, Ed Bouchee, and Richie Ashburn each banged out 4 hits to pace the 19 hit attack.  Posted by Picasa
