Lee Walls played centerfield for the Cubs today and was the only one of the traded players to get a hit for his new team. You wonder why Walls was shipped off to Chicago after compiling some impressive early numbers for the Pirates. Lee was hitting .478 with 2 homeruns and 7 rbi for the Buccos. In fact, Dale Long just stated hitting to in a recent game he had 5 rbi. Dee Fondy was hitting a fine .340 for the Cubs with two homeruns. Fondy adds speed at first but not as much powere as Long could can provide. We'll see how this trade pans out over the long stretch of the 1957 campaigne. Posted by Picasa
