Don Drysdale pitched a 2 hitter at Ebbets Field as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat
the Chicago Cubs by the count of 7 to 1.

Brooklyn came up with 4 runs in the bottom of the 4th inning with the help of
4 hits. The big moment was provided by Drysdale who excited the crowd when
he doubled scoring two baserunners. Brooklyn finished with 9 hits in the
victory.

Drysdale(2-0) was the winner allowing 1 run for the game. Don Kaiser(0-2) was
the losing pitcher. He had trouble throwing strikes and issued 6 walks in 3
and 2/3 innings.

Curt Barclay shut down the Milwaukee batters on just 3 hits at The Polo
Grounds where the New York Giants beat the Milwaukee Braves 1 to
0.

Barclay(2-0) was virtually untouchable. He gave up just 3 hits and no walks
in 9 innings improving his ERA from 2.63 to 1.59. New York took care of
Milwaukee with no trouble in the 9th.

The loss was charged to Warren Spahn(2-2). 'He had his 'A' game today,' Bill
Rigney said of Barclay. 'Very impressive performance.'

ST. LOUIS AT PITTSBURGH

The St. Louis Cardinals halted a 5 game slide and easily topped the Pittsburgh
Pirates; the final score was 8 to 2.

Willard Schmidt(2-1) earned his pay with a solid performance for St. Louis.
He allowed 4 hits and 3 walks in 5 innings. St. Louis ended up with 12 hits
for the game while Pittsburgh had 7.

Bob Purkey(1-1) suffered the loss. He was touched for 8 hits and 3 walks in 5
and 1/3 innings.

First baseman Frank Robinson cracked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI as the
Cincinnati Redlegs beat the Philadelphia Phillies by a score of 8 to
6.

Robinson led the offense for Cincinnati. He lifted one out of the park for a
two run home run in the 1st inning, blasted a two-run home run (his 7th of
the season) in the 2nd inning and slapped a single in the 6th inning. Both
teams totaled 14 on the night.

The win went to Hal Jeffcoat(2-0) who allowed 6 runs in 5 and 1/3 innings.
Jeffcoat got relief help from Hersh Freeman who gained credit for his 2nd
save. Curt Simmons(2-1) suffered the loss. He allowed Cincinnati 6 runs in
2 innings of work.

'He gutted it out' Birdie Tebbetts said of Jeffcoat. 'I was very impressed by
his tenacity.'
