The Milwaukee Braves nipped the St. Louis Cardinals 3 to 2 at County Stadium
in a hard fought contest.

Ray Crone(2-0) had a solid outing for Milwaukee. He went 8 innings allowing 4
hits and 2 walks seeing his ERA drop from 4.05 to 3.07. St. Louis threatened
in the 9th but Milwaukee was able to put down the rally.

Taylor Phillips gained credit for his 1st save. The losing pitcher was Herm
Wehmeier(1-1). He pitched 8 innings allowing 6 hits and 1 walk.

Curt Barclay pitched 6 strong innings as the New York Giants defeated the
Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 9 to 1 at Ebbets Field.

Red Schoendienst was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a
fine day at their team's expense. He blasted a solo shot (his 3rd of the
season) in the 4th inning, doubled knocking in a run in the 5th inning and
tripled in the 7th inning. For the game New York out-hit Brooklyn 18 to 7.

Barclay(1-0) got credit for the victory, pitching 6 innings and allowing 1
run. Sandy Koufax(0-1) took the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 6 hits and 4
walks in 3 innings.

George Crowe smashed 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati Redlegs
defeated the ice-cold Chicago Cubs 9 to 3 at Crosley Field.

Crowe provided much of the offense. He cleared the fences for a two-run home
run in the 2nd inning and ripping a solo home run (his 3rd of the season) in
the 7th inning. Cincinnati ended up with 12 hits for the game while Chicago
had 9.

Joe Nuxhall(1-0) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the victory. Moe
Drabowsky(0-2) took the loss. He was knocked around, surrendering 6 runs in
4 innings.

Curt Simmons allowed Mayo Smith to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to
1 at Connie Mack Stadium.

Philadelphia took the lead for good in the bottom of the 2nd inning scoring 2
runs using 2 hits. After two were out Rip Repulski was the sparkplug when he
laced a single. Bob Bowman came to the plate and popped a two-run clout over
the fence (his 2nd of the season). That was all the runs Simmons(2-0)
needed. Philadelphia managed 9 in their victory.

The loss was charged to Bob Friend(1-2). He allowed 5 runs and 8 hits in 6
innings.
