Fours are Wild! Four players drove in 4 runs in today's action led by Wally Moon who went five for 5 while hitting his 11th homerun of the season as he drove in his four runs. He also stole a base in leading the Cardinals in their come from behind win over Pittsburgh. Two players got their rbi with one swing of the bat. Dale Long took Ed Roebuck deep with the bases loaded in the top of the seventh to high light a six run Cub outburst which gave the Cubs an 8-7 lead, only to see Charlie Neal get his last two rbi (he had four too),with a two run homerun in the bottom of the 7th inning to give the Dodgers the lead at 9-8. Dodgers won the game 10-9. Long's drive was hit high into the upper deck in left center field that knocked the bell out of Hilda Chester's hand. The other four rbi man got his with one swing of the bat and it was his first homerun of the season. Billy Bruton hit a lline drive that cleared the fence in right field at the 257 foot marker. "It didn't go far, but I hit it pretty good", smiled Bruton on his "Jack Pot" blow. With the Braves win coupled with the Redlegs loss to Philadelphia, Milwaukee is now a game and a half infront of second place Cincinnati. I was so dizzy with all the runs scored that I forgot to mention Frank Ernaga driving in four runs. So there was really five players. Speaking of the Brooklyn-Chicago game, I have that game on tape with Vin Scully, Al Helfer, and Jerry Dogget doing the play-by-play. Sandy Koufax struck out 12 batters and carried a no hitter into the sixth before Bob Speake hit a two-run homerun off of the lefty. The last time those two teams tangled was in Chicago and Koufax struckout 13, while Dick Drott struckout 8 and Turk Lown got two for a National League record tieing total of 23. In the real game (on the 4th of June) the total stikeouts was 8 in the bottom of the 2nd inning. Drott lost his control and was relieved after only recording six outs...four by strikeout. Koufax had 12 in seven and two thirds innings of work, giving up 5 runs on four hits and walking 5. Ernie Banks hit a three run homerun off Sandy in the top of the 8th. I love listening to that tape and now I have burnt it on a cd and can listen to it in my car this summer. Posted by Picasa
