Sal Maglie(2-2) was on top of his game in New York as he tossed a beauty of a
no-hitter against the New York Giants. The Brooklyn Dodgers won by a score
of 6 to 0.

Maglie had overwhelming stuff tonight. He simply never gave the New York
batters a decent pitch to drive. He surrendered no walks and could have
tossed a perfect game if it were not for the fielding error. The tension
started to build around the 6th inning. By the 9th inning the crowd was
electrified. Brooklyn managed 8 in their victory.

Ruben Gomez(2-2) was hit with the loss. He served up 3 homeruns in his 6 and
1/3 innings. What a show!' Walter Alston said. 'Maglie was great out there
-- I'm happy that he got it.'

The Philadelphia Phillies tallied 7 runs in the 8th inning and cruised to a 10
to 5 victory over the Pittsburgh Pirates at Forbes Field.

Philadelphia took the lead for good in the 4th inning scoring 2 runs using 4
hits. Granny Hamner led off and started the rally when he tripled. After an
out was recorded, Ed Bouchee came up and he doubled bringing in a run.
Willie Jones then doubled scoring the final run of the inning. Pittsburgh
was out-hit by Philadelphia, 15 hits to 11.

The victory went to Jack Sanford(3-1) who went 7 and 1/3 innings, allowing 5
runs. Ron Kline(1-4) was the loser. He got hit hard, allowing 11 hits and 2
walks in 7 innings.

With this win, Philadelphia has a 13-8 record. They have been 6-4 lately.
With this loss, Pittsburgh has a 3-7 record of late, 10-11 overall.

Juan Pizarro allowed Fred Haney to rest his bullpen, tossing a complete game
at Sportsman's Park as the Milwaukee Braves beat the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to
3.

Milwaukee did all of it's offensive work in the 1st inning when they scored 4
runs on 4 hits. That scoring would be all that was needed. After the 4th
inning, neither team was able to score.

The victory went to Pizarro(1-0) who went the distance allowing 3 runs. Sam
Jones(1-3) ended up with the loss. He was knocked around pretty good, giving
up 4 runs in 3 innings.
