Warren Spahn tossed a shutout as the Milwaukee Braves outscored the Chicago
Cubs 5 to 0.

Spahn(5-3) was in control of the game from the outset. He didn't allow much,
just 5 hits and 2 walks in 9 innings improving his ERA from 2.36 to 2.06.
Neither team managed to score after the 2nd inning.

Moe Drabowsky(1-5) ended up with the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 7 hits in 5
innings.

New York started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first scoring a single run. New York had 14 hits for the game and
Brooklyn had 6.

Johnny Antonelli(3-3) allowed 1 run in 8 innings, and picked up the victory.
Don Newcombe(3-3) was the losing pitcher. He pitched 9 innings and
surrendered 14 hits and 1 walk.

Gus Bell blasted 2 homeruns and had 3 RBI at Crosley Field as the Cincinnati
Redlegs beat the St. Louis Cardinals 8 to 5.

Bell had a good evening at the plate. He slapped a one-base hit in the 1st
inning, ripping a solo home run in the 3rd inning and smashed a two-run homer
(his 3rd of the season) in the 7th inning. Cincinnati had 15 hits overall,
while St. Louis had 10.

The victory was credited to Art Fowler(5-0) who went 1 inning, allowing no
runs. Hersh Freeman recorded the save, his 5th. Larry Jackson(0-3) was
charged with the loss in relief.

The Pittsburgh Pirates defeated the Philadelphia Phillies in 10 innings by a
score of 4 to 1 at Connie Mack Stadium.

The score was knotted at 1 after nine innings. Finally, Pittsburgh pulled the
game out in the 10th inning. Bill Virdon led off and started the attack as
he stroked a base-hit. Turk Farrell then picked Virdon off first base. Dee
Fondy then drew a walk. Frank Thomas stepped in and he drew a walk. Bob
Skinner came to the plate and tripled driving home two runs. Dick Groat
contributed to the rally and slapped a single scoring the final run of the
inning. Philadelphia was out-hit by Pittsburgh, 10 hits to 7.

The victory went to Nellie King(2-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Farrell(1-2) was hit with the loss in relief. With this win, Pittsburgh has
a 14-16 record. They have been 4-6 lately. Philadelphia has a record of
20-12 after the loss.
