Johnny Podres whitewashed New York on 3 hits as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated
the New York Giants by a score of 4 to 0 at Ebbets Field.

Podres(4-3) escaped virtually unscathed against the New York hitters. He
surrendered only 3 hits and 3 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA to 2.30.
Brooklyn managed only 6 on the afternoon.

Al Worthington(2-2) was tagged with the loss. He gave up 3 hits and 1 walk in
5 innings.

Right fielder Walt Moryn cracked a homer and had 3 RBI as the Chicago Cubs
defeated the Milwaukee Braves by the score of 7 to 3 at Wrigley Field.

The home town fans were very appreciative of the fine hitting performance
provided by Moryn. He doubled in the 4th inning, lifted one out of the park
for a two run home run (his 3rd of the season) in the 6th inning and doubled
knocking in a run in the 7th inning. Chicago totaled 11 on the afternoon.

The win went to Don Elston(1-0) who allowed 1 run in 2 innings. Bob Buhl(3-1)
was the losing pitcher. He pitched 5 innings allowing 7 hits and 2 walks.

Harvey Haddix pitched 9 strong innings as the Philadelphia Phillies topped the
Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 3 to 1 at Connie Mack Stadium.

Philadelphia scored 2 runs in the bottom of the 3rd inning. That scoring
would be all that was needed. Pittsburgh was retired without difficulty in
the 9th.

Haddix(3-1) allowed 1 run on the game. Ron Kline(2-6) absorbed the loss. He
pitched 7 innings and surrendered 7 hits and no walks.

18,006 fans watched an exciting game at Crosley Field. The Cincinnati Redlegs
topped the St. Louis Cardinals by the slimmest of margins, 4 to 3.

Tom Acker(2-1) contributed a very nice performance in relief. He didn't give
up much, just 2 hits and no walks in 2 innings improving his ERA from 3.93 to
3.54. Cincinnati had a total of 11 hits for the game.

Hersh Freeman gained credit for his 6th save. Willard Schmidt(3-2) took the
loss. He allowed 4 runs and 10 hits in 6 innings.
