Jim Hearn pitched 3 and one third strong innings and catcher Stan Lopata
blasted a homerun and had 3 RBI at Connie Mack Stadium as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Brooklyn Dodgers by the count of 4 to 3.

Lopata made sure the Philadelphia fans enjoyed themselves. He blasted a solo
shot (his 6th of the season) in the 2nd inning and tripled which was good for
two runs in the 4th inning. Hearn pitched a perfect ninth and was credited
with his 2nd save.

The win was credited to Don Cardwell(4-2) who went 5 and 2/3 innings allowing
3 runs. Johnny Podres(5-4) took the loss. Philadelphia now has a record of
26-18. With the loss Brooklyn now has a record of 25-16.

Pittsburgh Pirates won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over New York Giants at Forbes
Field pulling it out in their last at bats, 4 to 3.

Pittsburgh won the game with a run in the bottom of the 9th inning. After an
out was recorded, Johnny O'Brien reached on an error. Bob Skinner followed
and he lined a one-base hit. Paul Smith then drew a walk to load the bases.
Bill Virdon was up next and he banged out a single making Pittsburgh
victorious to the delight of the the home town crowd. Pittsburgh had 10 hits
for the game and New York had 7.

Red Swanson(1-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the victory. Ruben
Gomez(3-6) was tagged with the loss. He surrendered 9 hits and 2 walks in 8
and 1/3 innings.
