Warren Spahn carried a perfect game into the 8th inning before issuing a base on

balls to Del Ennis to lead off the 8th inning. He lost his no-hit bid when Eddie

Kasko led off the 9th with a solid single to center. Braves won game over Cardinals

4-0 as the Braves extend their lead to 1 full game over Cincinnati. In other news

Frank Robinson continues his onslaught of National League pitchers going 3 for five

and driving in 3 runs. Oh, by the way he did hit his 14 homerun of the season

and he now is in "Triple Crown" territory.

Frank Robinson connected with a 'big fly' and had 3 RBI as the Cincinnati
Redlegs outscored the reeling Chicago Cubs 10 to 4.

Robinson had a good day at the plate. He popped a two-run clout over the
fence (his 14th of the season) in the 1st inning, banged out a single which
plated a run in the 5th inning and stroked a base-hit in the 8th inning.
Cincinnati ended up with 14 hits for the game while Chicago had 11.

Hal Jeffcoat(6-1) went 8 innings allowing 4 runs for the win. The loss was
charged to Dick Littlefield(0-1). He was knocked around pretty good, giving
up 5 runs in 4 innings.

Ray Katt had 2 base hits as the New York Giants defeated the Pittsburgh
Pirates 3 to 1 at Forbes Field.

New York had the winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2 runs on 4
hits. Ray Jablonski opened up the inning nicely when he stroked a base-hit.
Red Schoendienst followed and he slapped a single. Don Mueller got his turn
next, but he was a strikeout victim. Bob Smith then let loose a wild pitch.
After another out, Dusty Rhodes stepped up to the plate and he banged out a
single knocking in a run. Katt kept things alive and doubled scoring the
final run of the inning. New York ended up with 12 hits for the game while
Pittsburgh had 6.

The win was credited to Stu Miller(1-2) who went 8 innings allowing 1 run.
Marv Grissom earned the save, his 4th. Smith(0-3) was the loser in relief.

Warren Spahn took a no-hitter into the 9th inning as the Milwaukee Braves
outscored the St. Louis Cardinals 4 to 0.

Spahn(6-4) was virtually untouchable. He gave up just 1 hit and 1 walk in 9
innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.16 to 1.94. The left-handed Spahn lost
his no-hit bid when Eddie Kasko singled with nobody out in the 9th inning.
Milwaukee banged out 9 on the night.

Murry Dickson(0-4) was the loser. Fred Hutchinson lamented, 'Spahn was really
aggressive today. He kept coming after our hitters. Heck, why not. he kept
sitting our guys down one after another - like so many bowling pins!'

Jack Sanford completed the game without help from the bullpen as the
Philadelphia Phillies defeated the Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 5 to 3 at
Connie Mack Stadium.

Philadelphia had 2 runs cross the plate in the bottom of the 5th inning with
the help of 4 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Richie Ashburn who
electrified Connie Mack Stadium when he lined a base-hit bringing in two
baserunners. Brooklyn could do no damage in the 9th.

Sanford(4-2) allowed 3 runs on the game. The loss was charged to Roger
Craig(2-2). He was unable to control the Philadelphia offense and allowed 8
hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3 innings.

With this win, Philadelphia has a 25-17 record. They have been 5-5 lately.
With the loss Brooklyn now has a record of 24-15.
