Charlie Neal homered and had 4 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated the
Chicago Cubs by the score of 10 to 9 at Ebbets Field.

Neal made sure the Brooklyn fans enjoyed themselves. He slapped a one-base
hit knocking in a run in the 1st inning, stroked a single resulting in a run
in the 3rd inning and cleared the fences for a two-run home run (his 3rd of
the season) in the 7th inning. Chicago had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.

Ed Roebuck(2-1) got the win allowing 3 runs in 2/3 of an inning. Clem Labine
earned his 8th save. Tom Poholsky(0-3) absorbed the loss in relief.

'It's a disheartening loss, no question about it' said Bob Scheffing 'But we
have to get over it and get ready for the next game.'

Bill Bruton blasted a grand slam and Ray Crone was able to finish what he
started and was credited with a complete game at the Polo Grounds as the
Milwaukee Braves beat the New York Giants 12 to 3.

Bruton enjoyed a big evening at the plate. He caught a hold of a bad pitch
for a Grand Slam homerun (his 1st of the season) in the 1st inning, slapped a
single in the 6th inning and tripled in the 9th inning. Milwaukee had 14
hits for the night.

The win was credited to Crone(4-1) who went the whole way allowing 3 runs. Stu
Miller(1-3) ended up with the loss. He got hit hard, allowing 5 hits and 2
walks in 2 innings.

Harvey Haddix struck out 10 batters as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated the
Cincinnati Redlegs 5 to 1 at Connie Mack Stadium.

Haddix(5-1) had a strong outing. He didn't give up much, just 6 hits and 3
walks in 9 innings seeing his ERA drop from 2.60 to 2.36. Philadelphia
rapped out 8 hits for the night.

Brooks Lawrence(3-5) was tagged with the loss. 'Everything felt great' Haddix
said. 'I had a good fastball, I felt I could throw it by everybody tonight.'

ST. LOUIS AT PITTSBURGH

Wally Moon had 5 hits and 4 RBI as the St. Louis Cardinals defeated the
Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 11 to 6 at Forbes Field.

Moon had a big evening at the plate. He slapped a one-base hit in the 2nd
inning, lashed a single which plated a run in the 4th inning, stroked a
base-hit in the 6th inning, clubbed a three-run home run (his 11th of the
season) in the 7th inning and slapped a base-hit in the 9th inning. For the
game St. Louis out-hit Pittsburgh 17 to 9.

Lloyd Merritt(2-1) allowed no runs in 3 innings, and picked up the victory.
Hoyt Wilhelm recorded his 4th save. Red Swanson(1-2) was hit with the loss
in relief. He surrendered 2 runs and 3 hits in 1 and 2/3 innings.

With this win, St. Louis has a 16-25 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With
the loss Pittsburgh now has a record of 21-22.
