Center fielder Willie Mays had 4 hits as the New York Giants defeated the
Chicago Cubs in 12 innings by a score of 6 to 5 at Wrigley Field.

The score was tied at 5 after nine. New York won it in the 12th inning. Red
Schoendienst lofted a solo-blast 'downtown' (his 7th of the season). New
York finished with 13 hits while Chicago ended up with 9.

The victory went to Mike McCormick(1-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no runs.
Dave Hillman(1-1) was hit with the loss in relief. 'We really needed this
win' said Bill Rigney. 'That first drink of water at the end of a drought
sure does taste good!'

Third baseman Don Zimmer cracked a homer and had 2 RBI and Sandy Koufax reeled
off a total of 11 strikeouts as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Cincinnati
Redlegs by a score of 4 to 3.

Koufax(3-1) gave a fine effort for Brooklyn. He was reached for 6 hits and 1
walk in 7 innings. Cincinnati had a chance to come back in the 9th but they
came up short.

Clem Labine earned his 3rd save. Johnny Klippstein(2-2) was given the loss.
Birdie Tebbetts was impressed with Koufax and his 11 strikeouts. 'It's tough
to generate runs if you can't make contact with the ball.'

Robin Roberts tossed a complete game at County Stadium as the Philadelphia
Phillies beat the Milwaukee Braves 4 to 1.

Philadelphia came up with all the runs they needed in the 6th inning when they
scored 4 runs on 5 hits. The key offensive moment was provided by Stan
Lopata who quieted the crowd when he cracked a two-run shot (his 5th of the
season). The game was a scoreless duel until the 6th inning.

The victory went to Roberts(4-2) who went the distance allowing 1 run. Lew
Burdette(2-3) ended up with the loss. He pitched 6 innings and surrendered 7
hits and 2 walks.
