At County Stadium the Cincinnati Redlegs outscored the Milwaukee Braves 4 to
1.

Cincinnati took the lead for keeps in the 2nd inning scoring a single run
using 2 hits. After an out was recorded, Ed Bailey cracked a solo homerun
(his 7th of the season). Cincinnati banged out 9 on the night.

Don Gross(5-2) went 8 and 1/3 innings allowing 1 run for the victory. Raul
Sanchez recorded the save, his 1st. Warren Spahn(5-4) was the losing
pitcher.

Left fielder Rip Repulski had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies
defeated the New York Giants in 11 innings by the score of 9 to 6 at the Polo
Grounds.

The score was tied at 6 after nine. Finally, Philadelphia pulled the game out
in the 11th inning. Chico Fernandez opened up the inning nicely when he drew
a walk. Jim Hearn came next and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Richie
Ashburn then reached on an error. Granny Hamner stepped in and he lashed a
single bringing in a run. Repulski came to the plate and banged out a
one-base hit plating one more runner. Ed Bouchee added to the uprising and
drew a walk to load the bases. One out later, Stan Lopata came up and he
reached on an error scoring the final run of the inning. Philadelphia
finished with 13 hits while New York ended up with 9.

Hearn(1-0) picked up the victory, allowing 1 run in 1 and 2/3 innings. Turk
Farrell was credited with his 3rd save. Mike McCormick(1-1) absorbed the
loss in relief.

In a close game it was the Pittsburgh Pirates 6, the Brooklyn Dodgers 4 at
Forbes Field.

In the bottom of the 7th inning Pittsburgh scored 2 runs. The highlight
belonged to Bob Skinner who thrilled the crowd when he blasted a two-run home
run (his 1st of the season). Brooklyn was retired without difficulty in the
9th.

Bob Friend(3-5) was the winner allowing 4 runs in 7 innings. Luis Arroyo
recorded the save, his 1st. The losing pitcher was Don Bessent(0-1) in
relief. He pitched 1 and 1/3 innings giving up 1 hit and 1 walk.

At Sportsman's Park the Chicago Cubs were battered 12 to 7 by the St. Louis
Cardinals.

Obviously without his best stuff, Larry Jackson(1-3) still hung on to pick up
the win. He gave up 4 runs, 6 hits and 6 walks in 5 and 2/3 innings. St.
Louis managed 10 in their victory.

Moe Drabowsky(1-6) was tagged with the loss. He was not very effective,
surrendering 5 runs in 4 and 1/3 innings.
