John Podres and Harvey Haddix are two of the better left handed pitchers in the National League and both of them proved their point today with complete game victories for their respective teams. Podres pitched the Dodgers to a 4-0 score over the New York Giants, scattering three hits and walking three. If Red Schoendienst wasn't in the Giants line-up Johnny would have pitched a "no hitter". Schoendienst broke out of a slump with his 3 for 4 raising his average to .275. For Podres it was his 4th win of the year against 3 losses. Carl Furillo hit a first inning 3-run home run, his 4th for the Brooks. Haddix won his 3rd on a 4 hit complete game, beating the Pirates 3-1. "The Kitten" struckout 6 Pirates in turning his fine performance in under two hours. More news on the day has the Redlegs taking over first place with their win and the Milwaukee loss. Wally Post hit his 8th round tripper and drove in 3 runs while George Crowe wrestled the homerun lead away from Robbie with his 6th inning boundry belt, number 14 on the season. Redlegs are a half game in front of the Braves and only one percentage point ahead with their 23-12 mark. Braves are ten over five hundred at 21-11.
