Sandy Koufax reeled off a total of 11 strikeouts and Gil Hodges had 2 base
hits as the Brooklyn Dodgers beat the Chicago Cubs by a score of 3 to
1.

Koufax(2-1) contributed a very nicely pitched game. He surrendered only 5
hits and 2 walks in 9 innings lowering his ERA from 3.65 to 2.53. Brooklyn
finished with 10 hits in the victory.

Moe Drabowsky(1-4) was the losing pitcher. Koufax was humble when questioned
about his performance, 'Well, I felt pretty confident in my pitches this
afternoon. But, I had great support behind me and I just threw what was
called. That was an extremely well called game!'

George Crowe hit a homerun at Crosley Field as the Cincinnati Redlegs pulled
off a dramatic comeback beating the reeling New York Giants by the count of 4
to 3.

Cincinnati erupted with the game winning runs in the 9th inning scoring 3 runs
utilizing 5 base hits. Crowe got things going when he ripped a base-knock.
Ed Bailey stepped up next and he slapped a base-hit. Don Hoak then lined a
one-base hit to load the bases. Bob Thurman came up and he would hit into a
force play bringing in a run. Smoky Burgess dug into the batters box next,
but he struck out. Johnny Temple added to the outburst and laced a base-hit
bringing in another run. Wally Post came next and he slapped a single giving
Cincinnati the win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Cincinnati
out-hit New York for the game, 12 hits to 8.

The victory went to Tom Acker(1-1) who went 1 inning, allowing no runs. Marv
Grissom(1-3) absorbed the loss in relief. Acker and Crowe were really
whooping it up in the clubhouse after the great come from behind victory. As
Birdie Tebbetts noted, 'A win like this one can do wonders for a team's
attitude.' Everyone shares in the joy - the fans, the players - even you guys
- it's better than winning by a dozen runs!'

PITTSBURGH AT MILWAUKEE

Juan Pizarro went the distance at County Stadium where the Milwaukee Braves
beat the Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to 4.

Milwaukee wasted no time and took the lead in the first inning scoring 4
runners on 5 hits. Pittsburgh threatened in the 9th but their rally came up
short.

The win was credited to Pizarro(2-0) who went the whole way allowing 4 runs.
Bob Friend(2-5) ended up with the loss. He was unable to control the
Milwaukee offense and allowed 7 hits and 2 walks in 4 innings.

'You have to give Pittsburgh credit, they fought us tough to the end' Fred
Haney said. 'It could have gone either way, but I'm glad we pulled out the
victory.'

Lindy McDaniel pitched a complete game and Don Blasingame had 4 hits at
Sportsman's Park as the St. Louis Cardinals beat the Philadelphia Phillies 8
to 1.

St. Louis took the lead off Harvey Haddix in the first inning as they scored 4
runs on 7 base hits. That was all the offense they were to need. St. Louis
managed 15 in their victory.

McDaniel(1-2), allowing 1 run for the game, picked up the victory. Haddix(2-1)
was charged with the loss. He was hit hard and gave up 9 hits and 2 walks in
3 and 2/3 innings.
