At Wrigley Field the Pittsburgh Pirates finally stopped their 5 slide with the
victory and outscored the Chicago Cubs 6 to 3.

Ron Kline(2-4) gave Pittsburgh a solid outing. He went 8 innings surrendering
6 hits and 2 walks. Pittsburgh rapped out 7 hits for the afternoon.

Kline got relief help from Roy Face who gained credit for his 2nd save. Dick
Drott(1-5) was charged with the loss.

When questioned, Bobby Bragan remarked, 'It's been a while since a win felt
this good - heck, it's been a while since we had a win period!'

Catcher Stan Lopata went yard and had 2 RBI at Crosley Field where the
Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Redlegs 8 to 6.

Turk Farrell(1-1) looked good in relief and was the winning pitcher. He
allowed just 2 hits and no walks in 2 innings and chalked up 4 strikeouts
reducing his ERA from 2.00 to 1.64. Overall Philadelphia out-hit Cincinnati
17 to 9.

Jim Hearn earned the save, his 1st. Warren Hacker(1-2) took the loss. First
baseman George Crowe launched 3 homeruns and had 4 RBI for Cincinnati but his
effort was wasted in the loss.

31,075 fans watched an exciting game at County Stadium. The Brooklyn Dodgers
offense put up 4 runs on the scoreboard in the 17th inning and topped the
Milwaukee Braves by the slimmest of margins, 7 to 6.

The score was tied at 3 after nine. Brooklyn won it in the 17th inning.
Brooklyn had 16 hits for the night.

Sandy Koufax(1-1) got the win allowing no runs in 3 innings. Ken Lehman got
the save, his 1st. Dave Jolly(0-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. He
was not very effective, surrendering 4 runs in 2 innings.

The St. Louis Cardinals finally stopped their 5 slide with the victory and
nipped the New York Giants 6 to 5 at Sportsman's Park in a hard fought
contest.

Del Ennis made sure the St. Louis fans enjoyed themselves. He doubled
resulting in a run in the 1st inning and rifled a three-run blast (his 4th of
the season) in the 5th inning. New York had a chance to come back in the 9th
but they came up short.

Vinegar Bend Mizell(1-0) allowed 2 runs in 7 innings, and picked up the
victory. Jim Davis was credited with his 1st save. Ruben Gomez(2-3) absorbed
the loss. He was unable to control the St. Louis offense and allowed 14 hits
and 3 walks in 6 innings.

'It's been a rough ride lately, but this was a good win for us' said Fred
Hutchinson, 'Maybe this will put us back on track.'
