Warren Spahn pitched a five hit complete game shutout over the Chicago Cubs today at Wrigley Field. It was Spahn's 5th win of the season and kept the Braves a half game in front of the Cincinnati Redlegs, who won thier game over the struggling St. Louis Cardinals 8-5. The Redlegs were led by Gus Bell, who is starting to show signs of breaking out of a year long slump. Gus ripped two homeruns at Crosley Field, his 2nd and 3rd of the season, and drove in 3 runs to lead a 15 hit Cincinnati barrage. The Redlegs are 22-12 while the Braves have one less win at 21-and two less loses with 10. Johnny Logan drove in 3 of the Braves runs with a three run homerun, his first of the season. Spahn struckout 4 and walked only two. Spahnie's ERA is now at 2.06 in eight starts the lefthander has completed 7 games.
