Bob Buhl hurled a two hitter beating the Phillies 3 to 1. Braves hold a 1 game lead over second place Cincinnati, who got a four hitter from Brooks Lawrence. The hitting start for today was struggling slugger Frank Thomas, who was 4 for four raising his average to .223. So far this year for the Braves, Buhl has recorded two 3 hitters and now his first two hitter of the season. His record is a respectable 5 and 3 with a great ERA of 2.70. It was his first win after suffering losses on the 2nd and 6th of June and then getting a "no decision" in his last outing. For Brooks Lawrence, it is his second straight win and he has allowed only 3 runs over his last 16 and a third innings. As for Frank Thomas, he has struggled most of the year. On June 11th, he failed in four trips and was batting a miserable .190. In his last 17 at bats he has hit safely ten times and this includes one game where he was oh for three. He has raised his average 33 points in that span.
