At Ebbets Field, the Brooklyn fans witnessed a great pitcher's duel. Johnny
Podres(6-4) finally bested his Cincinnati opposite, Warren Hacker(2-3), by
the score of 1 to 0.

The deciding run was scored by Brooklyn in the 8th. Charlie Neal cracked a
solo homerun (his 4th of the season). Cincinnati threatened in the 9th but
their rally came up short.

Clem Labine was credited with his 10th save. Hacker absorbed the loss. He
gave up 1 run and 4 hits in 7 and 1/3 innings.

With this win, Brooklyn has a 28-17 record. They have been 6-4 lately. With
the loss, the Cincinnati ballclub's record is 29-19.

Stan Musial jacked one out of the ballyard and had 3 RBI as the St. Louis
Cardinals defeated the New York Giants by a score of 9 to 5 at the Polo
Grounds.

St. Louis drew first blood jumping out to an early lead in the first inning as
they scored 4 runs on 5 base hits. St. Louis managed 11 in their victory.

The victory went to Willard Schmidt(4-2) who went 7 innings, allowing 5 runs.
Al Worthington(3-4) was the loser. He was unable to control the St. Louis
offense and allowed 9 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 2/3 innings.
