Juan Pizarro had a big day for the Braves on Sunday. He pitched a ten hit shutout over the Pittsburgh Pirates, striking out 12 and also went 3 for four from the left side of the plate hitting his first homerun of his Major League career. It was Pizarro's fifth win of the season against no losses. The Braves swept the double header from the Pirates winning 7-4 in game one and 8-nil in Pizarro's gem. In other news George Crowe hit two onto Bedford Avenue in Brooklyn leading the Redlegs to a sweep of the Brooklyn Dodgers winning 5-2 in game one and 9-2 in game two. Those were Crowe's 16th and 17th homeruns of the year. He now leads teammate Frank Robinson by two homeruns for league leadership. In that 9-2 Cincinnati win over the Dodgers, Hal Jeffcoat won his league leading 8th game of the season. Jeffcoat is 8-1 with a fine 3.15 ERA. The Phillies took two from the Cubs and the Giants and Cardinals split their double dip. Crowe pictured from his time spent with the Milwaukee Braves. George was traded before the start of the 1956 season for Corky Valentine, a pitcher who never again pitched in the Majors after 1955, and Bob "Hurricane" Hazle, who has yet done nothing for the Milwaukee Braves, laboring at Wichita of the American Association.Posted by Picasa
