Pittsburgh Pirates won a dramatic crowd-pleaser over Chicago Cubs at Forbes
Field pulling it out in their last at bats, 3 to 2.

Pittsburgh won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Bill Virdon tripled.
Gene Freese was next and he was walked intentionally. Bill Mazeroski then
was walked intentionally to load the bases. After an out was recorded, Paul
Smith came to the plate and delivered a one-base hit giving Pittsburgh the
win and sending the home town fans into a frenzy. Although they lost,
Chicago did out-hit Pittsburgh 12 to 6.

The win was credited to Bob Smith(1-3) who went 1 inning allowing no runs. The
loss was charged to Don Elston(2-1) in relief.
