Rookie, Red Swanson pitched a three hit, shutout at the reeling St. Louis Cardinals. The Redbirds are in 6th place, trying to catch the 5th place Pirates and not doing a very good job of it. In the real season, the Cards were a half game out of first, just behind the Milwaukee Braves at this time of the season. They are currently 12 and a half games out of first place and 4 and half lengths behind the Buccos. Swanson, a twenty year old right hander lowered his ERA to 1.80 and looks to be a very bright spot for the Corsairs in the future. In other games, the Braves got a game winning hit from newly acquired Red Schoendienst and beat the Giants 3-2 in the bottom of the 9th uprising. Teddy Kluszewski, the "steroid poster boy" of the 50's...were they around then?...hit two homers in the Redlegs win over a slumping Brooklyn Bum team. Don Newcomb surrender 14 hits in 7 plus innings taking the loss. Hal Jeffcoat got his league leading 9th win of the season, but had a rough outing allowing 5 runs in 7 innings. Final there was 8-5 Rhinelanders. The Cubs knocked off Philadelphia 3-2. Bruins were out hit 13 to 4, but still managed the win. Harry Anderson went four for 4 raising his average to .212.
