Stan Musial went four for 4 in game two of the double-header sweep by the Redbirds over the Brooks by identical 5-4 scores. "The Man" hit two homeruns giving him 17 on the year and he raised his average to .384 and caught Frank Robinson for the league leadership. Both men are hitting .384 and both have hit 17 homeruns, with Musial having 44 RBI and Robby one less at 43. In the last ten games, Stan has really been the man, hitting .395 with 11 RBI and 7 boundry belts. Rip Repulski had a big game in the Phils first game win over the Milwaukee Braves. "Ripper" had four hits in five trips, hitting a homerun and driving in 5 of the Quakers 12 runs. In the night cap, Lew Burdette tossed a beauty besting Robin Roberts by a score of 2-nil. It was Burdette's third shutout of the season. Other top pitchers were Louis Arroyo pitching 8 solid innings and striking out 8 Cubs in winning the lid lifter. Also, Ray Crone getting his first start as a New York Giant pitched 7 solid innings, allowing only 3 hits, but got no decision. Giants did beat the Redlegs 5-4 in that one. In the Pirate-Cub double header, the Cubbies came back behind Bob Rush and Jim Brosnan to win the night cap. The Milwaukee Braves are leading the league with a 36-20 mark and a game and a half behind them are the Phillies and Redlegs with 35-22 records. The Bums have slipped a bit and find themselves 3 and a half back at 32-23. And thats got you caught up on June 16th, 1957 Posted by Picasa
