Red Swanson shut down the St. Louis batters on just 3 hits at Sportsman's Park
as the Pittsburgh Pirates beat the St. Louis Cardinals 1 to 0.
Swanson(2-2) escaped virtually unscathed against the St. Louis hitters. He
didn't allow much, just 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings improving his ERA from
3.27 to 1.80. St. Louis threatened in the 9th but Pittsburgh was able to put
down the rally.
Larry Jackson(2-6) was hit with the loss. 'He came out with good stuff,'
Bobby Bragan said about Swanson. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch
on.'
