Vern Law had another complete game victory Monday, when the Pirates beat Cincinnati Redlegs 2-1. Law lowered his ERA to 2.36 winning his 5th game of the season. He also held Frank Robinson in check with a size three collar. Robbie's average dips to .387. The only other game was in Brooklyn where little used catcher Del Rice poled two gigantic homeruns to lead the league leading Milwaukee Braves to a 3-2 win over the fourth place Bums. Rice hit his first homerun of the season in the 7th inning off of Don Newcombe and then tee'd off on reliever Clem Labine in the top of the 12th to win it for the Braves. Eddie Mathews accounted for the other run with his 11th "Big Fly" of the season...did they call 'em "Big Flies" back then? Ernie Johnson provided solid relief of Bob Buhl, who started and pitched the first 9 innings. Ernie threw goose eggs for the last three innings to win his third game of the season.
