Bob Rush pitched the Cubs to a 7-1 win over the New York Giants. It was Rushs' 4th win of the season against 2 losses. Walt Moryn was the hitting hero with 3 rbi, all on boundry belt, his 6th of season. Curt Simmons pitched a 7 hitter over the first place Milwaukee Braves and lost his shutout in the last of the 9th on a Henry Aaron ground out double play. The Phillies won the game 4-1 and moved to within one half game out of first place. The Braves haven't been out of first place since May 29th. The Phils haven't been there since April 24th. In St. Louis, two young arms matched up in a 1-nil Brooklyn win. Danny McDevitt, making just his second start of the season went 8 innings and needed relief help in the ninth from Clem Labine. McDevitt struck out 8 in posting his first win of the season. Rube Walker was the difference, hitting his 3rd homerun of the season. Von McDaniel yielded only 3 hits in going the distance for Redbirds in his first start of season after graduating from high school. Stan Musial, wasn't "The Man" today, striking out three times, the last time with runner on second base to end the game. Pittsburgh continued to win with a 9-5 count over Cincinnati. Roman Mejias was 3 for 5 with 3 rbi and his 3rd homerun of the season for Corsairs.
