Bob Skinner, in and out of the line up due to injuries, hit three homeruns in the double header with St. Louis this Sunday, June 19th, 1957. In game one he went three for 4 with 3 rbi and two homeruns...his 3rd and 4th of the year, as the Bucs beat the slumping Redbirds, and in game two he hit another but it wasn't enough to propell Corsairs to doubleheader sweep. Other big day players were Duke Snider, who hit 2 homeruns, 15 and 16 on the year, and drove in 3 to bring his league lead to 55, nine better then second man Henry Aaron of Milwaukee. The Duke is currently hitting .327, good for sixth place in the batting race. Another Dodger, Don Drysdale had a good day pitching a complete game five hitter and striking out 8 in winning his 8th of the season. Don is currently 8 and one with a 2.91 ERA. Milwaukee is leading the league by a game and a half over Philadelphia and Cincinnati. Brooklyn is in 4th place four and a half off the pace. The St. Louis Cardinals are 8 games off of their actual winning percentage for 1957 and are currently 13 games behind the leaders. The New York Giants and Chicago Cubs are almost as bad. Both are 7 games under their '57 winning percentage. On the other hand, Philadelphia, Pittsburgh and Cincinnati are playing over their percentage. Phils are 7 games above, while the Bucs and Rhinelanders are 6 over their '57 pace. The Milwaukee Braves and Brooklyn Dodgers are almost right at their pace. The Braves are plus two and the Bums are +1. Posted by Picasa
