Carl Erskine, "Oisk" as he was affectionately called by the Brooklyn fans, got his first start of the season and tossed a beauty at the St. Louis Cardinals, shutting them out on 3 hits. Erskine was on the sidelines for most of this season, with only a few relief appearances before his starting debut for 1957. The only other game scheduled for Monday saw Philadelphia moved to within a half a game of Milwaukee with a 7-oh whitewash by Harvey Haddix. The Braves are really struggling with their lack of an offensive attack and Joe Adcock broke his leg and will be out until September...other then that life is good.....Braves scored 5 runs in the five game series with Phils and were fortunate to get two wins out of the mess. Buhl and Trowbridge got just enough runs to win their games. Two Braves have double digits in homeruns. Aaron has 19 and Eddie Mathews has 14. Joe Adcock had 5 before he went on disabled list. The Braves have hit 59 homeruns in 65 games. In real life 1957 they hit 199 in 156 games for a 1.275641 average per game. This replay they are hitting .9076923...I don't round off when I'm dealing with these numbers folks.
