Del Ennis finally broke his homer drought, hitting his first homerun since May 26th. He was 4 for five with four rbi and his 6th homerun of the season. All for naught however as his Redbirds lost to Brooklyn 9-7. Carl Furillo, who has battling the injury bug, went three for 3 and strolled twice, for a perfect five of 5 in the on base percentage category. Carl raised his average to .290. It's his highest batting average since May 20th when his average was at .292. Don Gross got the benefit of 13 runs and coasted to an easy win 13-2 over Pittsburgh. Gross went the distance for Cincinnati, scattering 8 hits and striking out 4. It was Gross' 7th win of the season for the third place Rhinelanders. Bob Trowbridge was a little wild for the Braves allowing 6 walks over his 8 inning stint, but did limit Philadelphia to only 3 hits as Milwaukee took the Quakers 3-1 and enlarged their lead to a game and a half over Philly. In other action, the Cubs beat the New York Giants 4-2 handing the Polo Grounders their 5th straight loss and and are now 20 and a half games behind the Milwaukee Braves. Giants are also twenty and a half back but are 19 percentage points ahead of last place Bruins.
