Four games were on tap for Saturday July 6th, 1957. Pittsburgh continued their winning ways with a 4-1 win over the New York Giants. Vern Law won his 8th against two loses. Vern went the distance, scattering 8 hits. Milwaukee, for the second day in a row came back against the Cubs to win 3-2. This time Eddie Mathews was the hero with a two run single in the bottom of the 10th. Hard luck pitcher, Dick Drott stymied the Braves through 9 innings on only 3 hits and one run. Warren Spahn pitched a complete game ten inning for his tenth win of the season. Big George Crowe got is homerun lead back when he had two boundry belts against the Cardinals in the Redlegs 12-2 lambasting. George has now 25 homeruns, one more then runner-up Ernie Banks. Johnny Klippstein went the distance for his fourth win of the season. Brooklyn downed the Phillies 7-1, with a big 6 run bottom of the 8th. Ed Roebuck won his 3rd in relief. With that win the Flatbush Flock is now in second place, four percentage points above the Phils. Milwaukee still leads the league with one day left before the All-Star break, by one and one half games over the Bums and Phils. Posted by Picasa
