Games of Friday June 28th, 1957

Warren Spahn pitched his third shutout of the season, beating
Pirates on a 3 hitter. Spahnnie started the game retiring the first
19 batters he faced, before Groat dumped one into right field, in front of Henry Aaron. It was Spahns' 8th win of the season and kept the Braves in hot pursuit of front running Phils, who beat Cincinnati in ten innings 7-5. Cardinals got a well pitched game from Larry Jackson, who needed relief help from Mizell and Wilhelm in beating Giants 2-1. The Brooklyn and Cub game was rained out in Chicago

In a tight game it was the Philadelphia Phillies 7, the Cincinnati Redlegs 5
in 10 innings at Crosley Field.

The score was tied at 5 after nine. Philadelphia won the game in the 10th
inning. After an out was recorded, Marv Blaylock got things going when he
smashed a solo-shot out of the park (his 1st of the season). Chuck Harmon
followed and he laced a base-knock. Stan Lopata then laced a single. Willie
Jones stepped in and he drew a walk to load the bases. Rip Repulski stepped
into the box and was hit by a pitch scoring the final run of the inning.
Philadelphia finished with 10 hits in the victory.

The winning pitcher was Turk Farrell(2-2) who allowed 2 runs in 1 inning. Bob
Miller earned the save, his 2nd. Art Fowler(6-1) was the loser in relief.

Warren Spahn carried a no-hitter into the 7th inning as the Milwaukee Braves
outscored the Pittsburgh Pirates 6 to 0.

Spahn(8-7) pitched one of his finer games as he simply was too much for the
Pittsburgh batters. He surrendered only 3 hits and 1 walk in 9 innings. The
left-handed Spahn lost his chance for a no-hitter when Dick Groat singled
with one out in the 7th inning. Milwaukee rapped out 9 hits for the night.

Bob Friend(7-8) was hit with the loss. 'He came out with good stuff,' Fred
Haney said about Spahn. 'He threw the ball good from the first pitch on.'

Cardinals beat the New York Giants by the count of 2 to 1.

St. Louis brought 1 run across the plate in the 7th inning. St. Louis had 8
hits for the night while New York had 5.

The winning pitcher was Larry Jackson(4-6) who allowed 1 run in 7 and 2/3
innings. Hoyt Wilhelm got the save, his 7th. Curt Barclay(3-6) was hit with
the loss. He pitched 7 innings giving up 7 hits and 2 walks.

'I just wanted to give my team a chance to win.' said Jackson, 'I got burned
on a couple of pitches. But we won the game, and that's all that matters.'
