Harry Anderson had 2 base hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies defeated
the Cincinnati Redlegs 4 to 3 at Crosley Field.

Philadelphia won the game with a run in the 9th inning. Richie Ashburn drew a
walk. Chico Fernandez stepped up to the plate and he laid down a sacrifice
bunt. Ed Bouchee then laced a single scoring the run. Philadelphia totaled
7 on the afternoon.

Turk Farrell(3-2) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 3 innings. Hersh

Johnny Klippstein delivered 9 solid innings as the Cincinnati Redlegs defeated
the Philadelphia Phillies in 11 innings by the score of 2 to 1 at Crosley
Field.

Both teams were tied at 1 runs apiece after nine innings. Finally, Cincinnati
pulled the game out in the 11th inning. After an out was recorded, Gus Bell
slapped a single. George Crowe was next and he lashed a single. Frank
Robinson then laced a base-hit giving Cincinnati the victory as 18,981 happy
fans celebrated wildly. Overall Cincinnati out-hit Philadelphia 9 to 5.

Don Gross(8-3) got the win allowing no runs in 1 inning. Seth Morehead(2-1)
was charged with the loss in relief. He surrendered 1 run and 3 hits in 1/3
of an inning.

With the crowd on their collective feet, screaming at the top of their lungs,
Milwaukee Braves rallied to top Pittsburgh Pirates by the score of 5 to
2.

Milwaukee came through with the game-winning runs in the 9th inning when they
scored 4 runs on 3 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Del Crandall
who made the crowd happy when he belted a three-run homer (his 4th of the
season). Milwaukee had a total of 8 hits for the game.

The victory was credited to Ernie Johnson(4-0) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Luis Arroyo(4-3) was the losing pitcher in relief.

Fred Haney was all smiles after the ballgame, 'It sure was looking pretty dim
there for a while, but our guys never gave up - and neither did our fans -
they kept cheering us on. What a sweet win!'

The Milwaukee Braves had very little trouble at County Stadium downing the
Pittsburgh Pirates. The score was 7 to 2.

Milwaukee started with a bang, jumping out to an early lead in their half of
the first when they tallied 3 runs on 3 hits. That early scoring was all
that Taylor Phillips(3-2) needed. For the game Milwaukee out-hit Pittsburgh
16 to 4.

Joe Trimble(0-2) was charged with the loss. He allowed 5 runs and 6 hits in 1
and 1/3 innings.

Catcher Valmy Thomas hit a homerun and had 2 RBI as the New York Giants beat
the St. Louis Cardinals by a score of 8 to 7.

The game was won by New York with a run in the 8th inning. Danny O'Connell
stroked a base-hit. Willie Mays stepped into the batter's box and he drew a
walk. After an out was recorded, Daryl Spencer stepped up to the plate and
he would hit into a force play scoring the run. St. Louis had a chance in
the 9th but they came up short.

Al Worthington(6-4) was the winner allowing no runs in 2 innings. Marv Grissom
recorded his 8th save. Vinegar Bend Mizell(3-1) took the loss. He was
unable to control the New York offense and allowed 12 hits and 6 walks in 7
innings.

Daryl Spencer had 3 base hits and 2 RBI at Sportsman's Park as the New York
Giants beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the count of 5 to 3.

New York scored the decisive runs in a big 9th inning with 2 runs on 2 hits.
Whitey Lockman led off the inning for New York when he banged out a single.
After an out was recorded, Willie Mays came up and he was walked
intentionally. One out later, Spencer came up and he laced a one-base hit
driving home two runs. New York had 14 hits for the game and St. Louis had
6.

Mike McCormick(3-1) went 2 innings allowing no runs for the win. Willard
Schmidt(5-4) suffered the loss in relief. With this win, New York has a
25-47 record. They have been 5-5 lately. With this loss, St. Louis has a
3-7 record of late, 27-41 overall.

Gino Cimoli blasted a homerun and had 2 RBI as the Brooklyn Dodgers defeated
the woeful Chicago Cubs by the score of 7 to 4 at Wrigley Field.

In the top of the 2nd inning Brooklyn scored 3 runs when they had 3 base hits.
The critical plate appearance was by Charlie Neal who disappointed the
partisan crowd when he lofted a three-run 'big-fly' (his 6th of the season).
Chicago was out-hit by Brooklyn, 10 hits to 7.

Don Newcombe(7-4) picked up the victory, allowing 4 runs in 8 innings. Clem
Labine earned the save, his 15th. Don Elston(2-3) was hit with the loss.

Brooklyn won for the 6th straight time.

11,436 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs
topped the Brooklyn Dodgers by the slimmest of margins, 3 to 2.

Chicago won the game with a run in the bottom of the 8th inning. Jack
Littrell drew a walk. Cal Neeman came to the plate and drew a walk. Bobby
Morgan then laid down a sacrifice bunt. Bob Speake was up next and he would
hit into a fielders choice scoring the run. Brooklyn was retired without
difficulty in the 9th.

The win went to Moe Drabowsky(4-8) who allowed 2 runs in 8 innings. Turk Lown
recorded the save, his 6th. Danny McDevitt(2-2) was charged with the loss.

'I didn't have my best stuff but sometimes you just get lucky,' Drabowsky
said, 'this was one of those times.'

7,319 fans watched an exciting game at Wrigley Field. The Chicago Cubs scored
4 runs in the 4th inning and topped the Cincinnati Redlegs by the slimmest of
margins, 7 to 6.

The game was deadlocked at 6 after nine full innings. Chicago won the hard
fought contest in the 11th inning. Lee Walls banged out a single. Bob Will
stepped into the batter's box and he laid down a sacrifice bunt. Ernie Banks
then laced a base-knock giving Chicago the win and sending the home town fans
into a frenzy. Chicago had 16 hits overall, while Cincinnati had 8.

Jim Brosnan(2-2) was the winner allowing no runs in 1 inning. Tom Acker(3-6)
was tagged with the loss in relief. He pitched 2 innings giving up 4 hits
and 1 walk.

Brooklyn had the winning rally in the 8th inning when they scored 5 runs on 5
hits. The highlight belonged to Duke Snider who deflated the crowd as he
lost the ball over the fence for three runs (his 19th of the season).
Brooklyn rapped out 11 hits for the night.

Don Bessent(1-1) picked up the victory, allowing no runs in 1 inning. Bessent
got relief help from Ed Roebuck who gained credit for his 2nd save. Ray
Monzant(0-2) ended up with the loss in relief. He allowed 1 hit and no walks
without retiring a batter.

In a great finish the Philadelphia Phillies came back in the top of the ninth
and held on to win over the Pittsburgh Pirates by a score of 5 to 4 at Forbes
Field.

Philadelphia had the game winning rally in the top of the 9th inning with 2
runs. Bob Bowman kicked off the action when he laced a base-hit. After an
out was recorded, Granny Hamner stepped up to the plate and he drew a walk.
Ed Bouchee then drew a walk to load the bases. Solly Hemus followed and he
reached on an error scoring two baserunners. Philadelphia had 11 hits for
the night while Pittsburgh had 8.

Jim Hearn(3-0) allowed no runs in 2 innings, and picked up the victory. Bob
Miller was credited with his 3rd save. Roy Face(2-3) was the losing pitcher
in relief.

'The only way this one could have been better', said Hearn, 'was if we had
played it at home.'

Third baseman Eddie Mathews smacked 2 homeruns and had 4 RBI at Sportsman's
Park as the Milwaukee Braves pulled off a dramatic comeback beating the St.
Louis Cardinals by the count of 8 to 7.

Milwaukee came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
scoring 3 runs on 3 hits. Carl Sawatski led off the inning for Milwaukee
when he doubled. Andy Pafko stepped into the batter's box and he singled
scoring a run. After an out was recorded, Hank Aaron came up and he cracked
a two-run shot (his 22nd of the season). Although they lost, St. Louis did
out-hit Milwaukee 14 to 10.

Dave Jolly(1-2) got credit for the victory, pitching 2 innings and allowing no
runs. Don McMahon got the save, his 1st. Hoyt Wilhelm(0-4) suffered the loss
in relief.

Fred Hutchinson was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not
in the mood for questions, but I'm sure Fred Haney will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
