Harvey Haddix pitched a seven hit shutout over the last place Chicago Cubs as the Phillies beat the Bruins 10-nil. "Kitten" struckout 11 and it marked the 4th time this season he struckout ten or more in a game. He leads the league with 77. His record now is a nifty 7 and two for the second place Quakers. They kept pace with the Milwaukee Braves, who knocked off New York Giants, beating the Polo Grounders 7-2 behind young lefty Juan Pizzaro, who went distance, striking out 8, allowing only 5 hits, and winning his 6th of season against only one defeat. Eddie Mathews led Braves' attack with a 3 for four effort, driving in 3 runs and hitting his 14th homerun of the season. Brooklyn beat the Cincinnati Redlegs 5-3 and Pittsburgh climbed to one game over the five hundred mark at 31-30, beating the St. Louis Cardinals 7-6 in 12 innings. Vern Law came on in relief and got the league's leading hitter, Stan Musial (.382) to fly out to end the game with men in scoring position. Wally Moon hit his 18th homerun of the season, climing to within one of the leader George Crowe.
