Bob Friend went the distance as the Pittsburgh Pirates outscored the Chicago
Cubs 13 to 5.

Frank Thomas was a thorn in the side of the hometown fans as he enjoyed a fine
day at their team's expense. He laced a base-knock in the 2nd inning,
cracked a two-run shot (his 7th of the season) in the 3rd inning and doubled
knocking in a run in the 6th inning. Pittsburgh had 14 hits for the
afternoon.

Friend(7-7) got the victory, allowing 5 runs for the game. Dave Hillman(2-2)
took the loss in relief. He was unable to control the Pittsburgh offense and
allowed 6 hits and 2 walks in 3 and 1/3 innings.
