In action on Tuesday the 2nd of July, two guys who haven't been heard for in a while made big noise. Remember Geroge Crowe and Frank Robinson, how they were terrorizing National League pitching in April and May? George had 19 homeruns on June llth to lead the league. Meanwhile he had hit only one homerun, on June 23rd, until he exploded with two today. Frank Robinson dropped below the .400 mark on June 9th, and fell as low as .361 with an oh for 6 on June 23rd against Pittsburgh, and lost his league leadership to Stan Musial. Well he had a 4 for four day against the Cubs (8 for his last 14) with two homeruns last night against Darius "Dave" Hillman pictured smiling before his relief stint Tuesday. Big Dave, with a more serioulsy look on his face after giving up back to back homeruns twice to Crowe and Robinson, four dingers in all. The Redlegs drubbed the Cubs 11-3. In other action Wes Covington provided all the offense needed for Warren Spahn in a 4-nil shutout of St. Louis for the veteran southpaw. It was Spahnie's 4th shutout of the year. Covington hit two homeruns to lead Brave's attack. In the only other game the New York Giants cooled off the hot Brooklyn Dodgers by the score of 4-1. Curt Barclay needed 9th inning relief help from Marv Grisson to best "The Barber", Sal Maglie. Braves, by virtue of their win and the Phillies off day, have reclaimed first place by a half game. Be back in three days...gone fishen'.Posted by Picasa
