Taylor Phillips was a hot young prospect for the Milwaukee Braves in 1956. His best year numbers-wise with a 2.26 ERA. He played just two years with Milwaukee and they shipped him off to the Cubs for a more proven pitcher in Bob Rush. Taylor's down fall was his lack of control. And he is lacking in this replay too, trying to find the strikezone. He has pitched in 41 and two thirds innings and has walked 38 batters. He hasn't given up a homerun ball as of yet because batters are afraid to "dig in" on him. He walked 8 on Sunday against the Pirates, but was good enough to last into the 9th inning, before surrendering two runs in the Braves double header sweep of the Bucs. Phillips made 141 pitches in that game and lost his shutout bid in the 9th due to what else, wildness. Don McMahon, just promoted from Wichita, got the final out after uncorking a wild pitch to allow a run to score. Oh, by the way Phillips had two wild pitches on the day. The sweep allowed the Braves to tie the Phils for top spot in National League with identical 45-27 marks. Phils split their double dip losing night cap in ll innings to Redlegs.
