Games from Sunday July 21st, 1957

Eight games were on the slate for this Sunday in July. The four double headers saw three sweeps and one split. The Cubs toppled the Brooklyn Bums as they fell to four and a half out of first. The Cincinnati Redlegs knocked off the Phillies twice and moved two percentage points ahead of Quakers up into the second position in the National League standings. The other sweep occured in New York where first place Milwaukee improved their record to 59 and 33 and a 2 and one half length lead over the Redlegs and Phils. The split took place at Forbes Field in Pittsburgh where the St. Louis Cardinals lost the 4-1 lead they had going into the bottom of the 7th in game two, only to rally with 4 of their own in the top of the 9th to win 8-5. In that double header Bob Skinner hit two ball park homeruns needing a roll of "#1" for each...Lady Luck made him equal to the task.
