Eddie Mathews had 4 hits and 2 RBI at Ebbets Field as the Milwaukee Braves
beat the Brooklyn Dodgers 11 to 7.

Milwaukee went ahead for good in the top of the 2nd inning with 2 runs using 4
hits. After two outs Red Schoendienst started the attack as he laced a
one-base hit. Johnny Logan came next and he cracked a two-run shot (his 5th
of the season). Milwaukee lit up the scoreboard in the 7th inning which saw
them plate 3 runs on 4 hits. Offensively, Milwaukee was a juggernaut. They
scored in 6 separate innings.

The winning pitcher was Bob Buhl(8-4) who allowed 5 runs in 8 innings. Sal
Maglie(2-6) was given the loss. He allowed 14 hits and 2 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.

Homeruns- W.Moryn(9th), W.Mays(13th)

Walt Moryn went yard and had 3 RBI as the Chicago Cubs topped the pathetic New
York Giants by a score of 3 to 1 at the Polo Grounds.

Chicago came up with all the runs they needed in the 1st inning scoring 3 runs
on 4 hits. Lee Walls got things going when he delivered a base-hit. After
an out was recorded, Ernie Banks came up and he drew a walk. Moryn then
clubbed a three-run home run (his 9th of the season). The early run support
proved sufficient for Dave Hillman(4-2) and Chicago. That was all the run
support Hillman required. Chicago had 11 hits overall, while New York had 7.

Turk Lown recorded his 7th save. The losing pitcher was Ray Crone(4-5). He
surrendered 7 hits and 2 walks in 5 innings.

Harry Anderson had 4 hits and 3 RBI as the Philadelphia Phillies outscored the
St. Louis Cardinals 12 to 5.

The Philadelphia fans enjoyed the offense provided by Anderson. He stroked a
one-base hit in the 4th inning, tripled which plated a run in the 6th inning,
doubled in the 7th inning and tripled scoring two baserunners in the 8th
inning. St. Louis was out-hit by Philadelphia, 16 hits to 11.

The victory was credited to Curt Simmons(7-7) who went 8 and 2/3 innings,
allowing 5 runs. The losing pitcher was Von McDaniel(1-3). He was unable to
control the Philadelphia offense and allowed 8 hits and 3 walks in 5 and 1/3
innings.

With this win, Philadelphia has a league leading 54-30 record. They have been
7-3 lately. With the loss, the St. Louis ballclub's record is 33-47.

Homeruns- J.Lonnett(3rd)

Center fielder Richie Ashburn had 2 base hits and 2 RBI at Connie Mack Stadium
where the Philadelphia Phillies beat the St. Louis Cardinals by the score of
5 to 3.

Philadelphia came up with all the runs they needed in the 4th inning when they
scored 5 runs on 6 hits. The critical plate appearance was by Joe Lonnett
who brought a roar from the partisan Connie Mack Stadium fans when he bombed
a two-run dinger (his 3rd of the season). St. Louis made it exciting in the
9th, but they were unable to push the needed runs across.

The win was credited to Jim Hearn(4-0) who went 5 innings allowing 3 runs. Bob
Miller recorded the save, his 5th. Larry Jackson(5-7) suffered the loss. He
allowed Philadelphia 5 runs in 4 innings of work.

Fred Hutchinson was clearly disappointed after the game. 'It was a manager's
nightmare out there', he said, 'We should have had this one.'

The losing pitcher was Red Swanson(3-5). He gave up 4 runs in 2 and 1/3
innings of work.
