Games of Thursday July the 17th, 1957. Phillies get back on the Henry Aaron-less Milwaukee Braves 2-0, behind the 4 hit shutout pitching of Curt Simmons. Milwaukee missed the services of slugger Aaron, who is out nursing a bruise on his left elbow. Cincinnati clubbed the New York Giants 7-6 as George Crowe and Jerry Lynch hit a pair of homeruns. For Crowe, he now has had 8 multiple homer games for Redlegs and a league leading 29. Cubs Dick Drott is starting to show signs of becoming a dominate pitcher as he threw a four hit, 7 strikeout performance against Pittsburgh. It was only Drott's fourth win of the season. It was the fourth time he threw a six hitter or less for nine complete innings and now has his ERA under five. In the other action, Brooklyn moved to 3 games out of the lead and only a half game out of third spot in standings with a 2-0 whitewash of St. Louis Cardinals. Johnny Podres was the moundsman for Flatbush Flock. Posted by Picasa
