Games of Thursday, July the 25th, 1957

Lots of action today in the National League. Big George Crowe was at it again. He had his 9th game where he hit two or more homeruns. He now has 32 in a year when he hit only 31. He is on a pace to hit 50. His Redlegs couldn't match the clutch hitting of the Pittsburgh Pirates as the Buccos came up with 5 runs in the 9th to beat Rhinelanders 9-5. Earnie Banks hit his 27th, on pace to hit 44 in a year when he hit 43, so old Ernie is right there. His Cubbies got another great pitching performance from Moe Drabowsky and now are 2 and a half lengths in front of last place Giants. The Braves are now 3 and a half lengths in front of Phils and Redlegs as they road Warren Spahn, 14th win of the year, and battery mate, Del Crandall, 11th homerun and 4 RBI. Crandall is now hitting .316 for the first place Braves. Henry Aaron hit his 27th homerun for the Braves and his pace is 46 in a year when he hit 44. In other action the Brooklyn Dodgers' Don Newcombe won his 10th beating the St. Louis Cardinals and continued their downward spiral.

Win:Drabowsky(8-9) Loss:McCormick(3-2)
Homeruns- D.Mueller(3rd), E.Banks(27th)

Third baseman Bobby Adams had 2 base hits and Moe Drabowsky completed the game
without help from the bullpen as the Chicago Cubs defeated the New York
Giants by a score of 5 to 2 at Wrigley Field.

Chicago set the tone of the game in the first inning with 3 runs on 4 hits.
Adams led off and started the attack as he doubled. Bob Speake came to the
plate and slapped a one-base hit. Ernie Banks then lofted a three-run
'big-fly' (his 27th of the season). That early run support was enough for
Drabowsky(8-9) and Chicago. Chicago totaled 10 on the afternoon.

Mike McCormick(3-2) suffered the loss. He was touched for 9 hits and 4 walks
in 5 and 2/3 innings.

PHILADELPHIA AT MILWAUKEE

Stadium where the Milwaukee Braves beat the Philadelphia Phillies by the
score of 9 to 3.

Crandall made sure the Milwaukee fans enjoyed themselves. He laced a one-base
hit in the 2nd inning, delivered a base-hit knocking in a run in the 5th
inning and belted a three-run homer (his 11th of the season) in the 6th
inning. Milwaukee had 15 hits for the afternoon.

The victory was credited to Spahn(14-7) who went the distance, allowing 3

home crowd when he doubled plating two runs. Pittsburgh had 18 hits for the
night while Cincinnati had 12.

Nellie King(3-1) went 1 and 1/3 innings allowing 3 runs for the victory. The
losing pitcher was Don Gross(11-4) in relief. Bobby Bragan was very happy
after the game, 'It's great to come back and win it in your last at bats! Our
