On Friday the 12th of July the National League race again was tied at the top. The Cubs knocked off the front running Phils 4-3 as Myron "Moe" Drabowsky won his 5th game of the season against 9 defeats and scattered eight hits, striking out 9 Phils in the route job over hard luck Robin Roberts. Meanwhile the Milwaukee Braves were getting another gem from wonderful Warren as he fired a two hit shutout over Pittsburgh. It was Spahnie's 11th win of the season. Frank Torre (#3) and Del Crandall (#7) hit homeruns for the second consecutive day. In other games Sad Sam Jones got plenty of support in New York as his St. Louis Cardinals routed the Polo Grounders 13-2. Stan Musial hit his 21st homerun of the season and drove in 4 and "Smokey Joe" Cunningham had another three hit game. It was Jones' 3rd win of the season. The Cincinnati Redlegs got some great pitching from Johnny Klippstein in stopping the Brooklyn Dodgers at Ebbets Field by the score of 2-1. Ed Bailey (#15) and Gil Hodges (#14) hit homeruns in the game as both Klippstein and Dodger starter Don Newcombe went the distance. Another note here in the game in Philadelphia that rookie Jerry "Slim" Kindall hit his first major league homerun leading off the game for the Cubs against Roberts
