Games of Saturday, August 3rd, 1957

Is it too late for the St.Louis Cardinals? Billy Muffet made his Major League debut in relief against the Phillies and closed the door on Quakers to preserve Von McDaniles best game of the season. In onther action, the Milwaukee Braves blew a sizeable lead to the Flatbush Flock, with Don McMahon coming in an walking everybody insight. Actually his sight and the umpires was really bad for Braves fans. Giants won again at Cincinnati so the Braves didn't lose any ground.

win over the Milwaukee Braves by a score of 9 to 7 at County
Stadium.

Brooklyn came through with the game-winning runs in the top of the 9th inning
as they scored 4 runs on 2 base hits. The big moment was provided by Gil
Hodges who deflated the spirits of the home town crowd when he singled
plating two runs. It was roller coaster of a game as the lead change hands 5
times.

The victory was credited to Ed Roebuck(4-4) who went 2 innings, allowing no
runs. Don Bessent recorded his 1st save. Lew Burdette(9-8) took the loss.

Fred Haney was not very talkative after his team's tough loss. 'I'm not in
the mood for questions, but I'm sure Walter Alston will be glad to talk about
the game as long as you have questions to ask.'
