Chicago Cubs purchased the contract of Chuck Tanner from the Milwaukee Braves on June 8th, 1957. Tanner was remembered for hitting a homerun in his very first plate appearence for the Milwaukee Braves on April 12th, 1955. Also, Jim Davis was purchased from the St. Louis Cardinals by the New York Giants on June 4th. Just a note to let you know that I might be switching the blog. Experiencing some problems uploading games from my game site.Posted by Picasa

Ed Bouchee had a "Walk off" homerun in the bottom of the 11th inning to give the Philadelphia Phillies a 2-1 win over the Chicago Cubs. It was his tenth homerun of the season. Fast Eddie is hitting a red hot .362, an average he has carried for the whole season. Gene Freese had a perfect day going 4 for four in the Pirates win over first place Milwaukee. The Bucs beat Brave's Ace Warren Spahn and gave the Braves their second straight loss. Freese drove in 2 runs and had a triple to go along with 3 singles. Gene is now batting .275 after wallowing in the low two hundreds for most of the last four weeks. In other league news, Whitey Lockman led a Giant's on slaught of the St. Louis Cardinals, hitting two homeruns ( five so far this season) as the New Yorkers finally started to take advantage of their "band box" stadium (the Polo Gounds), hitting 6 homeruns off the shell shocked St. Louie Cards. Jarry Jackson was tagged for a "hat trick" while Lloyd Merritt gave up 2 in two-thirds of an inning. The Giants flexed their muscles in the bottom of the 7th inning putting a seven spot on Cards and coasting to easy win 11-5. "Wow, did we need a game like that, said Giant Skipper Bill Rigney. We've been on the receiving end of those games, it was nice to dish some of that out on yhe other team...hope this can get us going now", he added Posted by Picasa

The incredible season that Frank Robinson is having is worth a little closer inspection. Frank had a monumental month of May hitting .440 with 8 homeruns and 20 RBI. He is hitting over .300 against all the teams in the league, and .400 over five of those teams. The real "puppies" for Frank have been the New York Giants. He is hitting .593 or 16 of 27 versus the Gi(ain'ts). Since May 2nd, Frank's average has been over the .400 mark. In those 33 games since May 2nd to the 6th of June, Frank has hit in 30 of those games and is hitting .442 with 8 homeruns and 24 rbi. How long will this continue? Can Robby bat .400? He was held to only one hit last night against Robin Roberts of the Phillies, but that was his 15th homerun of the season and drove in the only runs for the Redlegs in a 5-2 loss to Philadelphia. The Redlegs didn't lose any ground because the Giants came up with 4 runs in the bottom of the 7th to beat the front running Braves 6-4. Chicago's game with Brooklyn was rained out and will be made up later on. Posted by Picasa
